Evidence & Research

Amanda Super’s work in self-compassion at work and compassionate leadership is informed by psychological research and programme evaluation. This section brings together peer-reviewed self-compassion research and evidence summaries examining workplace self-compassion, workplace health and wellbeing, workplace stress and burnout, compassionate leadership development and leadership wellbeing.

The resources include Amanda’s published randomised waitlist control trial evaluating a brief online self-compassion intervention with healthcare professionals, an evidence summary on self-compassion and workplace wellbeing, and an evidence and evaluation summary focused on compassionate leadership and compassionate leadership coaching.

Published Study

Developing Self-Compassion in Healthcare Professionals Utilising a Brief Online Intervention: A Randomised Waitlist Control Trial

Published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health in 2024, this peer-reviewed study evaluated a four-week online, self-guided self-compassion intervention with 190 healthcare professionals. Participants were allocated to an intervention group (n=110) or waitlist control group (n=80). The study found significant improvements in self-compassion and mental wellbeing, together with reductions in perceived stress and burnout. Analysis reported in Amanda Super’s doctoral thesis found a significant group x time interaction (d=1.46, p<.001), representing a very large overall effect for the Self-Compassion at Work Programme.
